Translated from Ancient Chinese Wisdom

Like shamanism, reiki has its origins in ancient society.  Reiki originated in Tibet thousands of years ago and spread through India, into Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, and Japan.  In about the mid 1880’s Dr Mikaso Usui rediscovered the technique after traveling to India, mastering Sanskrit, reading the teaching of Buddha, and retreating to Mount Kuriyama for twenty-one days.  The symbols and the formula of the healing system that he rediscovered revealed themselves to him in bubbles of light that beamed from the heavens.

Shamanism is the earliest spiritual practice known to human kind.  Its roots date back tens of thousand of years.  Shamanic practices were found by modern day anthropologists in Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, Greenland, and native North and South America.  These practices have survived throughout history and continue to be practiced in their original forms.  Shamanism is man’s oldest form of relationship to Spirit.  Reiki is man’s connection to Universal Life Force Energy.  Together, reiki and shamanic practices are a perfect combination for potent and powerful multidimensional healing.

During a ceremony, a shamanic reiki practitioner becomes a vessel to channel universal life force energy while the client is journeying to connect to spirit realms.  The client is empowered to access information and energies that can reawaken and restore harmony to the emotional, mental, spiritual, etheric, karmic, and physical bodies.  Channeled reiki will connect energetically to every realm of emotion, mind, body, and spirit as well on the astral, planetary, earthly, and bodily levels making an extremely potent multidimensional healing process.

To start a shamanic reiki-healing journey, the practitioner and the client must have the opportunity to discuss the ceremony prior to the start.  In the shamanic view, everything that exists is alive and has spirit and we are joined with the earth and all life via our interconnectedness.  During their first conversation, the shamanic reiki practitioner and the client will acknowledge their interconnectedness and this will signify the beginnings of the healing journey.  The practitioner and the client become active partners in the healing process. The client will be asked to raise their awareness of circumstances and things that might be otherwise overlooked as being a possible icon or sign that may be of significance during their healing journey.  Especially significant are flowers, plants, twigs, branches, stones, rocks, or crystals that may be placed on the mesa (altar) during the healing ceremony.  Nature’s cycles of moon, sun, and stars will be considered and honored as auspicious times to reconnect with panchamama (mother earth) and her healing energies.   Journaling by the client will be a record of the synchronization of events before, during, and after the shamanic reiki healing ceremony takes place.

In both shamanic and reiki practices it is necessary to hold sacred space.
A ceremonial mesa (altar) is set up by both the practitioner and the client but the preparation for this ceremony was started when the session was scheduled.  The mesa (altar) will contain items of spiritual significance to both the practitioner and the client.  In both the shamanic and reiki view, working with the spiritual aspects of illness heals emotional and physical illnesses. All aspects of the ceremony are considered spiritual and sacred.  Time is multidimensional and healing can occur in any time or place.

During the session, the practitioner channels reiki for several minutes until the client becomes relaxed and comforted by the energy.  The reiki energy prepares the client for their shamanic healing journey.   A journey is like a light trance state where the client uses active imagination and intuition to access shamanic realms. Drums, rattles, music, smudge, and sounds of nature can be used by the practitioner to induce deeper relaxation, raise the veil between the worlds, and send the client off on their healing journey.   During the journey the practitioner holds space and time and allows Reiki Universal Energy to channel through to the client.  The client is safe and protected by the continuous cycles of Reiki’s universal love and any healing and helper guides, angels, ancestors, or power animals the client may meet or call upon.  The entire session is cocooned in protective energy from Reiki and earth’s natural healing and loving forces.

While journeying, from this place of expanded consciousness and heightened awareness of the spiritual charkas centers, energetic meridian system, and auric fields, the client is able to sense emptiness, areas of blockages, dense energy, or unwanted energetic intrusions in their body.  Together, the client and the practitioner can clear these obstacles to health and harmony.  When removed, the obstacle is replaced with the bright light of Reiki Universal Life Force Energy.  Both reiki and shamanic practices believe that all energy is good but may be unwanted at this time or causing a blockage or imbalance.  The unwanted energetic obstacle is treated with kindness and sent back into the vortex that transforms and makes all energy available for the greatest good.

Items from the mesa (altar) can be used during the healing ceremony as diagnostic or treatment tools.  Plants and flowers are considered especially revered for their healing properties and may be placed on specific places on the client during the ceremony.  After the ceremony, the client will gratefully return plants and flowers back to nature.  Feathers are used to fan the “fire” of earth’s energies and symbolize our ability to soar through the universe.  Drums and rattles can be used to sense areas of dense energy and can also be used to smooth out energy or break up blockages.  Crystal and stones can be used to “suck” up blockages, store energy, and transmutate unwanted intrusions.  Water is used to reawaken inner knowledge and a medium for neutralizing polarized energy.  The reiki symbols become part of the shamanic reiki healer’s energetic tool basket and can be used at any time to unlock stored universal energy and magnify and direct it to specific areas. The sounds of nature and the rhythmic beat of the drum will bring the client back to the solid earth realm.  The client will be grounded by the closing ceremony of expressing gratitude to the four directions and all other parts of nature used in the healing.  The client will be empowered from their journey by powerful knowledge, answers to questions, connection to nature, and tools for healing to be accessed and used wisely.

With shamanic reiki it is possible to learn higher-level problem solving for ourselves and the environment.  It reawakens our natural instincts to harmonize with nature, balance our behavior, and heal our wounds.  It creates the possibility for transformation for self, others, our community, our country, our planet, and our universe.  In this time of change and possibilities, shamanic reiki, accessing all realms and transcending time and space, offers us the vessel to hold and the channel to send vital energies to our personal and global future.
